About us

Who We Are

We are Education Exchange, a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting communities in Wundanyi, Mwatate and the wider Taita Taveta County of Kenya. Our mission is to empower individuals and families facing poverty by providing access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. We are a team of passionate individuals, including local staff, volunteers, and international supporters, all committed to creating lasting, positive change in the lives of those we serve. Through collaborative partnerships with local organizations, schools, and healthcare providers, we work to design and implement sustainable solutions that meet the unique needs of the communities. Our focus is on building self-reliance, improving quality of life, and offering the resources necessary for people to break free from the cycle of poverty. Together, we are making a difference, one life at a time.

How We Work

At Education Exchange, we work using a community-centred approach, working closely with local leaders, organizations, and residents. We believe in empowering communities by providing the tools and support they need to create lasting change. Our efforts focus on key areas such as education, healthcare, and economic development, with a strong emphasis on long-term impact.

Fundraising efforts in the UK enable us to provide essential resources, training, and support directly to those who need it. We aim to help people break free from poverty by giving them the skills and support they need to build better lives. Our focus is on self-reliance and empowerment, not just short-term aid. By working hand in hand with local communities, we make sure our projects are sustainable and create real, lasting change where it’s needed most.

Our Four Projects.

  • Mvono Medical Clinic

We support the Mvono Clinic by funding improvements and expanding its supply of essential medicines. This means better healthcare and more affordable treatments for the local community.

  • Taita Environmenal Initiative (TEI)

A community organisation which helps local people start their own businesses by providing funding and essential equipment. Our goal is to support them in building profitable and sustainable businesses.

  • Upper Planet IT Training Centre

Includes two centres which teach young people to improve their IT skills leading to qualifications and improved employment opportunities.

  • Grace Mwatate's Childrens Home

Provides a permanent home for more than 50 children aged 3-18. Many of these children have suffered extreme trauma in their past.

“Put simply, I’ve spent the last 20 years working for Education Exchange to enable just a few people to enjoy more safe and stable lives”
