Education Exchange
Strengthening communities and building brighter futures in rural Kenya.
Our Mission
Established in 2003, Education Exchange has helped communities in rural Kenya for over 20 years. Through our four projects, we provide essential support across multiple areas within the community including healthcare, childcare, education and sustainable development. By working closely with local businesses, churches and healthcare providers, we strive to create lasting change, empower individuals and build stronger, more resilient communities.
Our mission is to ensure that every person, regardless of their circumstances has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
Our Values
-
Empowerment
We believe in equipping individuals with the skills, education, and resources they need to unlock opportunities and work toward a stable future.
-
Sustainability
Our work is about creating long-term, meaningful change by working with local communities and promoting self-reliance.
-
Community
Every person we help matters. We work with care, respect, and kindness, making sure that those in need feel valued and supported.
-
Compassion
Change happens together. By working alongside local people, we create stronger, more resilient communities for generations to come.
Our Projects
Our work focuses on four key projects that help communities to create lasting change. Through the Upper Planet Training Centres, we equip young people with IT skills to improve their job opportunities. At Grace Mwatate Children’s Home & Rescue Centre, we provide a safe, nurturing space for vulnerable children, ensuring they receive education and care. Our support at Mvono Clinic helps improve local healthcare, making essential treatments more accessible. Lastly, our Tiata Environmental Initiative program helps individuals start small businesses, providing the tools and training they need to achieve financial independence. Together, these initiatives help to build brighter, more secure futures for local people.
Location
Wundanyi is a town located in the Taita Hills of Taita Taveta County, southern Kenya, at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level. The area is known for its stunning landscapes, cooler climate, and thriving agricultural activities, with fertile soils supporting tea, coffee, and fruit farming. Mwatate is around 20 km from Wundanyi and is a lower-altitude, semi-arid region, meaning it has a hotter and drier climate. Mwatate struggles with water shortages and droughts which make farming here more difficult. Both areas face significant challenges, including poverty, limited access to quality healthcare, education, and infrastructure. These challenges make the work of community-driven organizations, like Education Exchange, crucial in providing support and creating opportunities for local development, helping improve the lives of residents and empowering them to build better futures.
